General:

Marie Rosa, my grandmother, was born to George James Millman and Emm a on 21st August 1896 at 36, Bond St. Swansea, Glamorgan. By 1900, wh en Marie was 4, the family had moved to Bristol and were making a suc cess of an upholstery business. She married Hubert Cecil Shipley on 1 6th May 1921 at St Andrews Church, Montpelier, Bristol. They had thre e children and spent the whole of their married life in Bristol. Se e notes re. Hubert Cecil Shipley. After her husband's death in 1961 M arie moved to 32, Elicott Rd. Horfield and her younger brother Eric l ived there with her. I can remember Grandma Marie quite well and hav e fond memories of the house at 12 Egerton Road where the family live d until Hubert died. Uncle Alec, Aunt Joyce and Nick lived on the to p floor in a self-contained flat, whilst son Gerald used the front do wnstairs room as a bed-sit until his marriage in 1957. Marie died o n 3rd January 1974 at the Bristol Royal Infirmary. Her funeral was a t Canford cemetery and she was cremated.
